King of The Whole Wide World
Poor man wants the oyster
Rich man wants the pearl
But the man who can sing
When he hasn't got a thing
He's the King...
...of the whole wide World..
Dr Shane Paterson (my nephew) is a marine biologist, but at present he is enjoying a break from his profession working as an Elvis Presley impersonator in Los Vegas. From his web site it can be seen that he is also an expert on the life and works of Elvis.
Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893-1978) was mother's (Joan Hyde - nee Hudleston) first cousin. Sylvia was a distinguished novelist, short story writer and poet. Probably best known for her biography of the writer T.H. White.
I like the moving account of her love for the poetess Valentine Ackland which is in "The diaries of Sylvia Townsend Warner" edited by Claire Harman and "I'll Stand by You" - the letters of both women edited by Susanna Pinney. These comprise probably the most detailed account of a lesbian relationship of the 20th century.
